Excerpts from Annual Report by President Estus

The group membership stands at 82 members.

  • A Winter Field Day is still an objective we would like to see happen. We have tried for a few years to hold a day of instruction on cross-country skiing and snowshoeing. We will try again and hope for the right weather!
  • This past January I attended the conference in Saratoga Springs for Friends Groups of NY State OPRHP sites that offered opportunities for both networking and education in areas of common interest. As a follow up the Region is planning a meeting on October 8, 2008 in Watertown, to cover topics such as capital initiatives, budget challenges, advocacy opportunities, and fundraising.
  • The Fall Field Day will be held on Saturday, October 18. Frank Hochreiter has agreed to hold another Geo-caching event. The Pumpkin Painting and birdfeeders will again be part of the day’s events. There will be a members’ table. This will also include a clean-up day.
  • The bench program is on going with some completed and the rest of the materials are available to finish 15 new benches. In the coming months we hope to assure that the benches will be distributed around the Park.
  • We hope to expand on the par course program along with Chris Case’s desire to plan an arboretum.
  • We did not reach my membership goal of 100 but did improve the number in large part to Barb Grimshaw’s membership table at the Spring Event. We need to work on renewals so we don’t lose any members while we work to add new ones. We hope an increase in membership can lead to volunteers who will help keep the Nature Center open.
