Letter from the President

Posted on November 6th, 2008

On September 20, 2008, I was elected the new President of the Friends of Point au Roche State Park. As I pick up the baton from Peter I face circumstances of which we are all aware - that Volunteer organizations are hurting for membership and members are stressed by ever-busier schedules. We need to find ways to maximize the time each of our members can give to our mission in a way that does not add to the stress in their lives, but instead provides them with feelings of accomplishment and enjoyment.

So I am asking each of you to consider how you can best support the Friends of Point au Roche State Park. We need you all! Consider what it is that is important to your connection to the Park. A few ways you can help out

  • Review the web site and send in comments
  • Provide input on how to improve the Park and the Park experience
  • Take a small trash bag with you on your hike
  • Help keep the bird feeders filled
  • Spend an hour to keep the Nature Center open
  • Tell a friend about the existence of the group, even gift them a membership
  • Go all out and jump into a project that is on-going or a project you initiate yourself
  • Help out at the October 18th Field Day and Clean Up

Do you have an expertise that can lend value to a project? Note some of the ideas for projects mentioned in this newsletter. I will need all of you to help me if I am to be successful in making progress this coming year. It could be a tough year but with each of you helping me share the load we can help make the Point au Roche State Park an even better place to enjoy than it already is.
